A quick post today before heading back to The Houch for the first “real” practice of fall camp when the veteran Hilltoppers hit the field. There are some previously unknown (to me) additions to the roster, plus a scheduling announcement. More later this eveing.
Newcomers practice separately
Western Kentucky is dividing its practice sessions for two weeks between a group of mostly newcomers earlier in the day, than veterans later on.
With Monday’s first practice came the addition of a few names to the 2013 roster.
Deon Yelder is a freshman wide receiver from Southern High out of Louisville, Joeshawn Starks is a wide receiver from Lone Oak High out of Paducah, Rashaan Allen is a tight end out of Fort Knox High, Daeshawn Bertram is a linebacker from Trinity High in Louisville and Branden Leston is a linebacker who transferred from Presbyterian College.
Miami (Ohio) announces series with WKU
The Miami (Ohio) football program announced Monday a football series with WKU.
The Hilltoppers are scheduled to play at Yager Stadium on Sept. 26, 2015, then host the Redhawks on Sept. 17, 2016.
Western Kentucky was originally scheduled to face Louisiana State on Sept. 17, 2016, but that game has been moved to Nov. 14 of 2015 in Baton Rouge, La.
Not only are there a slew of newcomers in the WKU program, but 30 players who were on the opening-day roster in 2012 have not returned.
That list includes: wide receivers Boe Brand, Devin Borders, Cameron Brown, Will Adams, Neil Wilson, Andrew Pettijohn and Jerrell Moore, linebackers Daerius Washington, Daniel Faison and Mike Federspiel, fullbacks Courtney Dalcourt and Zane Ramey, quarterbacks Matt Kuivinen and James Mauro, defensive backs Brett Harrington, Daryll Gilchrist and Jolen Briggs, running backs Ben Axon, Dakota Brown, Travis Elliot and Oliver Head, kickers Jesse Roy, Clay Nelson and Kevin Carrillo, long snapper David Lipps, defensive lineman Dwayne Montgomery and offensive linemen Tyler Sweetland, Tyler English, Clayton Cain, William Berner and Delryn Wilson.
